Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) president and former Bihar chief minister Lalu Prasad Yadav(76) was taken to Delhi for treatment at AIIMS on 2 April. The former deputy chief minister and son Tejashwi Yadav told the media that his father has wounds on his back and hand and is expected to undergo surgery in Delhi.
"Lalu ji arrived at the airport in the afternoon to go to Delhi. My mother Rabri Devi was with him. A sudden drop in blood pressure was observed, after which we took him to Paras Hospital," Tejashwi said.
According to Prakash Sinha, who led the team of doctors treating Prasad, "He was kept in the emergency ward where his condition improved after intravenous therapy. He wanted to know if he could go to Delhi by air ambulance. We allowed him to go."
Lalu Prasad has been suffering from diabetes for several years. He has also undergone heart surgery and a kidney transplant. The 76-year-old leader, once known for his amazing ability to connect with the public, has largely stayed away from public events.
Prasad was last seen at a protest organised by the All India Muslim Personal Law Board against the Waqf Bill last week. Convicted in several fodder scam cases, he spent a major part of his jail sentence in hospitals until he was released on bail a few years ago.
